Meet our coach, Carolyn Ryder
Hi, I’m Carolyn Ryder, it’s great to meet you.
I’m a business coach and the founder of Business in Bloom Coaching. I’m also a mum to two young kids. I understand that life can be full of competing priorities and demands, and that starting and running a small business can be exciting and rewarding, but also confusing and challenging.
I know because I’ve done it myself, and I’ve helped over one hundred small businesses to succeed.
For 13 years, I worked as a lawyer for small businesses, larger organisations and individuals. I helped business owners get started, manage staff issues, expand into owning property and sell their interests. After my second child was born, I wanted to be at home for my kids as much as I could, so I decided to start my own law practice in our dining room. And I was thrilled when it was a huge success!
Starting a small business with young children was daunting, but it turned out to be the best thing I ever did. It was also the hardest thing I ever did. But, would I go back in time and change a thing? NO WAY!
I believe that starting and running a small business can do wonders for your self-confidence and the trajectory of your career. It will teach you how to be resourceful and find creative solutions to the challenges you meet. It will encourage your creative side to bloom and to fulfil your wonderful potential if you can just back yourself.
But I also know running a small business can be a lonely affair. Without the right support, you can make mistakes that cost you time and money (both of which are usually in short supply at the start). Your business can quickly lose momentum. Your sales can dry up seemingly overnight and your social media reach can plummet. I don’t want that to happen to you! Luckily there are solutions for all these problems, and I’m here to help you find them.
If you’re visiting this website, perhaps you’re sick of working hard to make somebody else rich, or being unappreciated or uninspired in your current job. Maybe you’ve gone as far as you can go where you are, and the idea of working on your own business has been buzzing away in the back of your mind for a while now. Perhaps you’ve got big dreams of starting your own business but you just need the encouragement and framework to make your dreams a reality. Or maybe you’re further along your small business journey but you need help growing your business or rediscovering your passion. Whatever obstacles you see in your way – they can all be solved!
This is where I come in as your small business coach. I’m so glad you’ve read this far, let me tell you how I can help…
Consider me your new biggest fan and small business BFF.
But, just so we’re clear, you should know that, at heart, I’m a nerdy, business-book-devouring, numbers-analysing, goal-setting bossy pants. Yep, I’m that kind of friend! And I might be just the medicine your small business needs to bloom.
With the benefit of my real-world small business experience, we’ll work together to grow your business by focusing on achievable goals. As a coach, I’ll open your mind to new possibilities and encourage you to explore previously undiscovered talents. I’ll hold you accountable to the commitments you make to yourself.
You need to be prepared to do some HARD work, clever lady. You won’t hear any promises from me about overnight success. There is no magic pill or secret recipe to sustainable small business growth. I believe that true success comes from hard work and making the right friends and connections for your business. Success is achieved by doing what you probably already know you need to do, day-in and day-out. It also requires you to be brave and put yourself in situations that might feel a little uncomfortable at first.
But you don’t need to be afraid, because I’ll be here holding your hand and lifting you up on my shoulders. I’ll be using every skill I have and all my networks to work some small business magic on your business dreams.

Online friendships and support networks are wonderful, but we believe nothing compares with the magic of connecting in person.
For the last few years, we felt there was a need for a space for mums in small business to network at local, kid-friendly events during school hours.
So, together with other wonderful women in my network, we’ve founded the Mums in Business – Brisbane South Networking Group. We meet monthly on the south-side of Brisbane and our events are free.
